If you are making YouTube videos for your business and want to know how you can gain more subscribers?
Keep reading this post then because I’m going to share with you my number one strategy that I use to gain thousands of subscribers each and every month on YouTube.
Firstly, why should you listen to me?
Good question.
My name is Thom Gardner, or better known online as Thomas In Action and I’ve been running a men’s hair and style YouTube channel for over 4 years now. I have done plenty of trial and error to build my following to where it is today and wanted to share my number one strategy for gaining more subscribers on my channel. It’s not as hard as you think…
I currently have a following of 84,000 subscribers and my channel is gaining over 2200 subscribers per month on average. If you look at the screenshot below you’ll see that in the second quarter of this year I gained a total of 8,428 subscribers, lost 1,666 which gave me an overall gain of 6,762 in just 3 months.
NOTE: Losing subscribers is something all channels will experience and is to be expected but as long as your number of gained subscribers is climbing, then you know you are doing something right.
So, how am I able to consistently pump out numbers like this month after month after month?
It’s simple, I create for search based intent.
This is probably the most important tip I could give to any content creator of any kind because it:
a) Means that you can get found far more easily by the right people who actually want what you offer or sell.
b) By creating content that users genuinely need and find useful, it will enable you to establish authority in your niche and naturally people will want to subscribe for more content on whatever topic you have authority in.
You may also be wondering, “well how do I find out what my audience is looking for?”. This is also a very good question and I’ve got you covered.
How To Figure Out What Your Audience Is Looking For
Not so long ago I found this really awesome free tool called Keywords Everywhere. What Keywords Everywhere does is shows you the amount of-of searches particular phrases are being searched for each month.
What this allows you to do is find phrases relating to your niche that have a high search volume and carefully structure your content around them so you are more likely to be found by the right people.
Here’s an example of how I did this for the key phrase “man bun”. By utilising Keywords Everywhere, I was able to see that the term “man bun” was being searched about 165,000 times per month. Seeing as this phrase had such a high search volume and I make hair content for men with long hair, it indicated that this particular key phrase was perfect for me to target in a video.
After coming to the conclusion that the phrase “man bun” was perfect for me target, the next step was to come up with a video concept. Fortunately, I didn’t have to search too far as the second search term that came up under “man bun” was “man bun styles”, which also had a decent amount of searches a month.
In the end, I came up with the idea to create a compilation of 10 different man bun styles that I have worn im my time and optimize the post for the phrase Man Bun.
The Results
Within just 4 months of taking the video live and optimising it for the search term “man bun”, my video is now ranked at #1 in the YouTube search engine for the phrase man bun and has had over 190K views.
By looking at these numbers, I think it’s safe to say my concept was a fairly good match for the market as nearly 200K people have watched the video and YouTube deems it as the most relevant content for the phrase “man bun”.
What this means now is that every month when that 165K people search the phrase “man bun”, the likelihood of them seeing and watching my content is now extremely high because I’m ranking at number one for the search term.
This allows me to reach new people who haven’t seen my content yet and to encourage them to subscribe to my channel for more man bun content.
In its lifetime so far, the video has helped me gain 1,164 extra subscribers to my channel and that number will continue to climb for as long as I can keep my number 1 rank for the search term.
Furthermore, this is just one video I’ve done this with. I have multiple other videos on my channel that gain me subscribers in the exact same way, which is how I’m consistently able to hit those solid subscriber gains every single month on my channel…
Pretty simple right?
Conclusion
Now, obviously there’s a bit more that goes into optimising your content for certain search terms but the main thing is to think about what people are looking for and how you are going to deliver content that helps them fulfill their needs. On top of that, you want your content to establish you as an authoritative figure in their mind so they will want to subscribe and come back to watch more of your content.
Once you can get that balance right and repeat the process over and over, you’ll start generating subscriber numbers beyond your wildest imagination.
There are also tons of other ways to increase your subscribers but I think I’ll save that for another post.
For now, make sure you add Keywords Everywhere to your chrome browser and thank you so much for reading.
Happy creating!
